Chairman of Armenia’s Parliament meets with Speaker of House of Commons of Canada

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. On May 26 the delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan, composed by the deputies Vahram Baghdasaryan, Hovhannes Sahakyan, Ruzanna Muradyan, Artak Zakaryan, Tevan Poghosyan, Ishkhan Khachatryan, Hrant Bagratyan, Lyova Khachatryan and Aghvan Vardanyan met with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Andrew Scheer in the parliament of Canada.

The Information and Public Relations Department of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that tanking for the invitation and warm hospitality Galust Sahakyan expressed confidence that the visit of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to the friendly country, Canada will promote the development of the inter-parliamentary relations and will give new breath to the deepening and strengthening of the inter-state ties.

Speaking about the parliamentary cooperation of the two countries, the Speaker of the National Assembly has noticed that due to joint efforts the agenda of the relations has become more comprehensive, including different spheres of cooperation. The NA Speaker has documented that the format of the inter-parliamentary cooperation on the agenda of the Armenian-Canadian relations occupies an important place: Armenia attaches big importance to their development as an important component of the inter-state relations.

Galust Sahakyan expressed his gratitude to the Canadian side, for consistently supporting the rise of Armenia’s status in the international organization Francophonie. Talking about the events held within the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial and the participation of Canada in those events, Galust Sahakyan has noted that it is important for the Armenians and the international community not only for voicing once again the historical facts, but also in terms of saying “never again” to similar crimes.

The Head of the RA Parliament has also expressed his deep gratitude to the Head of Canada-Armenia Friendship Group for delivering a speech during the global forum “Against a Crime Genocide.”

Galust Sahakyan expressed his thankfulness to the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada for the adoption of the resolution declaring Armenian Genocide Day in Canada April 24.

The NA Speaker has documented that the RA National Assembly initiated to create an inter-parliamentary platform of the international cooperation “The Parliaments against Genocide.”

He has noted: “We call on the representatives of the parliaments of all countries to take part in the formation of this platform, taking into consideration the fact that safeguarding the country from global disasters and dangers is one of the components of the parliamentary mandates.”

Talking about the Nagorno Karabakh problem, Galust Sahakyan reaffirmed the approach of the Republic of Armenia to settle the problem through peaceful, negotiating means.

The Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Andrew Scheer has thanked the Armenian Delegation for visiting Canada and has noted he highlights such meetings between the officials: the cooperation will develop with such meetings and dialogue. He has also emphasized the cooperation with Armenia and has stated that he will make all efforts for the final establishment of peace.

At the end of the meeting the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan invited his counterpart to Armenia.

Within the framework of the official visit the delegation led by the RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan had also a meeting with the members of the Canadian Executive Committee of Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly. During the meeting the sides talked about Armenia\'s fully joining the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly which was also reached recently with the support of the Canadian side. The issue of holding Organization of the Francophonie Council of Foreign Ministers of the international organization La Francophonie being scheduled in Yerevan in October 2015 was also discussed.

The interlocutors talked about the Armenian community of Canada which, according to the Canadian side, is an exemplary community and has a big contribution in the implementation of most different programs.
