Armenian Presidential Award winners of 2014 announced

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. 12 nominations for the persons, who made a significant contribution to various realms in 2014: there are different spheres ranging from science to culture, arts, medicine and literature. The expert committee has not also forgotten those people, who survived the Armenian Genocide and those individuals, who provided humanitarian aid to them saving the Armenians. As reports “Armenpress”, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan himself handed over the awards stating that he is hopeful that the award will encourage for the more zealous activities in future.

Among other things, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan underscored: “The recognition is important for each individual, particularly for the people engaged in creative activities. It proves that the man is not alienated from the society and the efforts he made gave results and were appreciated. Making mistakes and experiments, as any successful person in other spheres, each of you struggled and discovered the way of his creation. It’s this struggle that we appreciate.

I think that it’s of a certain importance that representatives of older, middle and young generations of the creative part of our people gathered here. It’s one of our primary objectives not to allow the link between the generations to be cut. The Armenian people’s rich reserve of knowledge and capacities, talent and experience must be passed to the generations and developed.”

Also, the President emphasized that the centennial of the Armenian Genocide gives a unique significance to the award giving ceremony. “By all means, the anniversary is neither an ending of anything, nor a beginning. It’s but a conventional borderline. 100 years ago, the Armenians were forced to pass a Golgotha solely for their national and religious identity. The executioners decided to erase the name of the Armenian from the world. Today the successors of survivors of those horrible torments, that terrible tragedy study nanostructures.

These are truly remarkable achievements. This is the response of the Armenian people to all those, who plan and desire to eliminate us. The Armenian genocide survivors themselves gave this response, who managed to restore their destroyed house again.”

In addition, Serzh Sargsyan noted that aiming to appreciate that greatest contribution of the survivors, this year, the expert commission decided to give the Presidential Award for Considerable Contribution to the Process of Recognition of the Armenian Genocide to the 23 female survivors of the Armenian Genocide living in Armenia.
