Japanese archaeologists to conduct joint excavations in Armenia

YEREVAN, MAY 25, ARMENPRESS:  This year the Japanese archaeologists expressed wish to conduct joint excavations with the Armenian specialists on the territory of Armenia. The excavations will be carried out to study some objects in the Ararat Valley and Mount Aragats foothills, which, apparently, could give some information about the Stone Age (particularly New Stone Age – Neolithic) and the Copper and Stone Age (Chalcolithic).
The Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Pavel Avetisyan told Armenpress about it, stating that the new objects were not recorded as monuments and have not been included in the list of monuments of the Republic. “We want to conduct field research works and understand do our initial observations are justified, are they really monuments and what monuments are they”, - said Avetisyan.
The joint Armenian-Japanese program is implemented with the specialists from the Kanazawa University.
