Armenia

YEREVAN, 23 MAY, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended the opening of prominent Armenian surrealist painter Levon Tutunjian’s exhibition, which is being held at the National Gallery of Armenia and is dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The head of government toured the halls and viewed the painter’s works.

As “Armenpress” reports, the exhibition showcases Tutunjian’s famous surrealist painting entitled “Yellow Mask”, which is dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, as well as 24 graphic works and 3 sculptures in different styles.

Since 1925, Tutunjian’s works have been showcased at exhibitions held in famous galleries across Europe, including the surrealist art exhibition held at Pierre Caule Gallery of Paris in 1933.

Tutunjian’s “Yellow Mask”, which is one of the best works of the artist having survived the Armenian Genocide, was last shown at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow in 1988. The graphic works are unique samples of abstraction, Tachisme and Surrealism created between the years of 1920 and 1960.
