PACE delegates introduced to peculiarities of Armenia’s legal system

YEREVAN, 19 MAY, ARMENPRESS. During the session of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Armenian side had the opportunity to provide a description of the country’s legal system. Among the speakers were former Judge of the European Court of Human Rights Alvina Gyulumyan, Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates Ara Zohrabyan, member of the Professional Commission on Constitutional Reforms Gevorg Danielyan and Deputy Human Rights Defender Tatevik Khachatryan.

As member of the Armenian Delegation to the PACE, Deputy of the Republican Party of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan said during a press conference, it was important for the CoE delegates to be introduced to the different aspects of the legal system in Armenia.

When asked if the Europeans understood the model of independence of the judicial system in Armenia, Arpine Hovhannisyan mentioned: “If you talk about various legal principles and the Constitution, then, of course, the model of independence as such is understandable. From the perspective of the model of independence, if we touch upon the subtext of the issue, we have to refer to the guarantees for independence and how they really work.”
