YEREVAN, 5 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The Government of the Republic of Armenia by implementing consecutive programs tends to make Armenia more attractive country for foreign investments. "Armenpress" has interviewed with the Head of the Investment Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy Vahagn Lalayan on the investment climate reforms in Armenia, the expected major investment projects and countries interested in Armenia.

Reform and development programs to have an attractive environment for investment

I can note some projects, which are aimed at Armenia's investment climate reform, are already underway and we can say that shortly they will give results. The first is the project with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The OECD is an international economic organization which has 34 member states and its proposals has great authority in the world. We implement a project with OECD aimed at increasing the competitiveness of Armenia’s both sectors; agribusiness and non-metallic materials. This year and at the beginning of next year, we should ensure the purposeful and effective implementation of proposals, which were represented in the reports of the program implementation phase. As a result, we will have more reformed sector and more attractive conditions for the investors. Why not, as well through other donors and OECD we can involve additional foreign investors.

The membership of Eurasian Economic Union and GSP+ preferential regime with the EU, one of the economic attractions of Armenia

Armenia is becoming a very interesting country within the framework of Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union and in terms of the investments. We have good economic relations with the European countries including the GSP+ system. On the other hand, we have the possibility to enter in the markets of Iran, Iraq and even African countries. Armenia is becoming a juncture in the region, which not only we understand, but also others understand. The foreign investors understand more from us, simply we need time, as they make calculations and select the sector to come and make investments.
