206 candidates to run for mandates in the NKR parliamentary elections (new press release)

STEPANAKERT, 2 MAY, ARMENPRESS. There will be 206 candidates running in the May 3 elections for 33 mandates in the National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (the number in the previous press release was inaccurate, but “Armenpress”’s correspondent was not to blame). Forty two candidates have been nominated for 11 mandates under the majoritarian electoral system, and 164 candidates of 7 political parties have been nominated for 22 mandates under the proportional electoral system. As “Armenpress” reports, this information was provided by President of the Central Electoral Commission of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Srbuhi Arzumanyan during a May 2 press conference in Stepanakert. Arzumanyan mentioned that there were fewer candidates compared to the previous elections and that there were more female candidates. This year, 101,653 voters will be participating in the elections.

“We attach importance to the aspiration to hold elections that will correspond to international standards, and for that, we believe political will and the constant improvement of the legislation are required. The electoral code has been amended, and more than 70 decisions have been passed,” she said, emphasizing the fact that according to the new electoral code, there are fewer spots for deputies under the majoritarian system.

The parliamentary elections in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will take place on May 3. May 2 has been declared as a day of silence in the NKR.
