Turkey’s Kurdish political party boycotting Erdoğan’s visits to Kurdish-populated regions
YEREVAN, 2 MAY, ARMENPRESS. Turkey’s Kurdish Democratic Regions Party has decided to boycott Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdoğan’s May 2 visits to the Kurdish-populated Batman, Diyarbakir and Siirt (Sġerd). As “Armenpress” reports, citing Radikal, the party’s decision comes after Erdoğan announced that “there is no Kurdish issue in Turkey" in one of his recent speeches.
The political party considered Erdoğan’s announcement incompatible in the context of the current process of Turkish-Kurdish reconciliation. Members of the Democratic Regions Party stated that the leader of the country continues to behave as a leader of a political party and, by visiting Kurdish-populated regions, wants to campaign for the ruling Justice and Development Party. The Kurdish political party’s statement reads that the party won’t greet and won’t host Erdoğan during his visits to Batman, Diyarbakir and Siirt (Sġerd).
