CoE willing to continue support to Armenia: Didier Reynders

YEREVAN, 27 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. On April 27, President Serzh Sargsyan received Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Trade and European Affairs Didier Reynders. As the Public Relations and Mass Media Department of the Structure to the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, the head of state welcomed the high-ranking guest in Armenia and emphasize that Armenia, being interested in the ongoing development of bilateral relations with Belgium, also attaches great importance to the dialogue and cooperation with the Council of Europe in the context of reforms taking place in the country.

The President wished Didier Reynders success in successfully completing the important mission, that is, the chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers.

Didier Reynders expressed gratitude for the kind wishes and cordial hospitality and emphasized that he extremely appreciated the close and fruitful cooperation with Armenia. Mentioning that he was aware of the fact that this year is a special year for Armenia due to the events commemorating the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, Reynders said he would be visiting Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the agenda of Armenia-CoE cooperation, the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, the CoE’s support to the reforms taking place in Armenia and several other issues of mutual interest. Didier Reynders emphasized that the CoE was willing and committed to continue the support to Armenia in the reforms in the political, economic, legal and other spheres.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the process of negotiations over the Karabakh issue. Didier Reynders reaffirmed the position of his country and the CoE Committee of Ministers on supporting the mediators with international mandates (OSCE Minsk Group) in the process of negotiations over a peaceful regulation of the Karabakh issue.
