YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. Within the framework of chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Belgium is committed to forming the international conciseness on the struggle for the genocides prevention via relevant international conferences.

As reports “Armenpress”, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium Didier Reynders stated this at the course of the joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian held on April 27.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium Didier Reynders paid a visit to Armenia on April 26, on the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian.

Among other things, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium Didier Reynders underscored that within the framework of chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Belgium is ready to support the regulation of relations with neighboring Turkey, as well as, Azerbaijan. “I think it’s my duty to be in the Tzitzernakaberd Memorial and, on behalf of our parliament, I express our support to the Armenian people,” Didier Reynders concluded.

The fact of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman government has been documented, recognized, and affirmed in the form of media and eyewitness reports, laws, resolutions, and statements by many states and international organizations. The complete catalogue of all documents categorizing the 1915 wholesale massacre of the Armenian population in Ottoman Empire as a premeditated and thoroughly executed act of genocide, is extensive. Uruguay was the first country to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide in 1965. The massacres of the Armenian people were officially condemned and recognized as genocide in accordance with the international law by France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Greece, Slovakia, Cyprus, Lebanon, Uruguay, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Canada, Vatican, Australia and Bolivia.
