Scout Tufankjian also participated in commemoration in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, 24 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Hundreds of Armenians of Istanbul moved from Sultan Ahmed Square towards Haydarpaşa Terminal where they commemorated the Armenian intellectuals who were martyred during the Armenian Genocide. Among the participants was Scout Tufankjian, who is known for taking a photo of the US President. “Being here today is truly an indescribable feeling. I think the fact that we are here in Istanbul is very important for us from the perspective that we are showing that we are not a nation that has been eliminated. Over the past couple of days, it has also been interesting to hear Turks and Kurds talking about the fact that Armenian Genocide recognition is especially vitally necessary for them,” famous Armenian photographer Scout Tufankjianmentioned in an interview with “Armenpress”.

The venue for the ceremony was not selected by chance since that was exactly the place where Armenian intellectuals were brought from the European sector of Istanbul and driven to the depths of the country. As “Armenpress”’s correspondent reports from Istanbul, with pictures of Armenian intellectuals in their hands, the participants first sat in front of the building of the station, after which they pronounced the names of each of the Armenian intellectuals who had fallen victim to the Armenian Genocide.“It’s impossible to bring back the world that was eliminated, but recognition will mitigate the pain. We call on recognizing the Armenian Genocide, apologizing for what happened and making reparations,” Turkish lawyer Eren Keskin mentioned in her speech.
