YEREVAN, 24 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Foreign media outlets have provided wide coverage of the events taking place in Yerevan on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

As “Armenpress” reports, the number one topic on Armenia’s agenda was in the headlines of media outlets like EuroNews, CNN, BBC, France 24, Deutsche Welle, Rossia 24, Russia Today and more. Some media outlets provided live broadcast of the event taking place at Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial, while other media outlets provided extensive articles devoted to the history of the Armenian Genocide and the events dedicated to the centennial.

Starting from 10 AM, EuroNews was broadcasting the official event at Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial attended by various world leaders. The reporter recalled that more than 20 countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide.

BBC wrote that 1.5 million Armenians were killed in the territory of the Ottoman Empire and emphasized that Turkey continues to deny the Armenian Genocide even a century after the Armenian massacres.

The Telegraph recalled that the 24th of April is the day of the commemoration because it was on that day that a large group of Armenian intellectuals were killed. The Telegraph wrote that even though Turkey tries to link the Armenian Genocide to the First World War, the massacres and the deportations of the Armenians had begun in 1895-96.

CNN touched upon the fact that the Armenian massacres are considered the first genocide of the 20th century.

The New York Times noted that all the presidents in Armenia, including Francois Hollande and Vladimir Putin laid flowers near the eternal flame of Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial.

The Los Angeles Times presented the facts of the Armenian Genocide with an extensive article entitled “Remembrance Day: The Turks tried, The Armenians survived”.
