If Hrant Dink was living, Turkey would have been a more progressive country: Cem Özdemir

BERLIN, 24 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. During the April 24 plenary session of the Bundestag, co-chairman of the Green Party of Germany Cem Özdemir called on his country’s government and Turkey to call the events of 1915 by their name once and for all. As “Armenpress” reports, the MP first expressed gratitude to President of Germany Joachim Gauck for pronouncing the word ‘genocide’ and called on the German government to do the same.

Özdemir informed that he visited Armenia in March and had meetings with the country’s political figures and progressive society. According to him, people in Armenia don’t understand why legal measures aren’t being applied to condemn and prevent these horrible events.

“I'm calling on calling everything by their names once and for all. This is also important for Turkey. I’m certain that if Hrant Dink was living today, Turkey would have been a more progressive country. If Komitas was living, there would have been more music in the world today. Many people have made their contributions to recognition. Turkish children shouldn’t recognize the assassin Pashas as heroes. They need to learn that such things must never happen again,” said the politician.
