Armenian Genocide recognition is act of peacefulness: François Hollande

YEREVAN, APRIL 24, ARMENPRESS. To commemorate the Armenian Genocide means to accept the tragedy, the entire extant of which was a blow to humanity; to commemorate means to prevent the repetition of those crimes in future. That’s why the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is a duty for France – paying tribute to the victims’ memory and, at the same time, passing the memory to the future generations. The President of France François Hollande stated this at the course of the commemoration ceremony of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held in Yerevan’s Tzitzernakaberd Memorial.

As reports “Armenpress”, the French President underscored: “Today, being in Yerevan we contribute to the reconciliation, as the memory should not be used for separation; on the contrary, it must be used to unite. The 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is dedicated to peace, progress, Armenia, the region, and the entire world. It’s a message of peace and reconciliation.”

Among other things, the President of France highlighted that there are very important words in Turkey, which have already been sounded, but other significant words still wait to be sounded. They are of a certain importance to relieve the pain.

In addition, François Hollande noted that he is hopeful that they will be able to open the Armenian-Turkish border in future.
