Austria left without Turkish envoy

YEREVAN, 23 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Turkey has summoned its ambassador to Austria after the Austrian Parliament described mass deportation and systematic extermination of 1,5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Turkey as genocide. As Armenpress reports, referring to the official Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry threatened that recognition of the historical reality will harm bilateral relations between the two countries: "Obviously, this will leave long-lasting negative marks on Turkey-Austria friendship and relations”.  Turkish Anadolu also reports, that “The ministry also said that Turkey’s views over the issue had been conveyed to the Austrian ambassador to Ankara, and that Turkey’s Ambassador to Vienna Hasan Gogus was recalled to Ankara for consultations”.

All the six fractions of the Austrian Parliament adopted a joint statement on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. The statement clearly defines that the massacre of Armenians in 1915 was a genocide and calls on Turkey to face with its history and recognize the Armenian Genocide. Austria admits its responsibility in the regard of the alliance between the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary during the World War I.
