Richard Hovannisian is expecting a different April 24th address from Obama
YEREVAN, 21 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. U.S. President Barack Obama’s April 24th address will be very different from the previous ones. This is what historian, UCLA Professor Richard Hovannisian said in an interview with “Armenpress”, adding that even though the Pentagon and the Department of State are pressuring Obama, he will be determined and will use the word “genocide” to describe the events that took place in the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century.
According to Hovannisian, Americans have trouble understanding why Obama has been using the expression “Mets Yeghern” instead of the term “genocide” every April 24th for several years now.
“The problem is that Americans view the expression “Mets Yeghern” not as a great crime, but a great tragedy. Therefore, the Armenian side must make efforts to make sure American society understands the gravity of the issue,” he mentioned.
