Refugee numbers in Ukraine conflict soar to over 800,000: UN

YEREVAN, APRIL 21, ARMENPRESS: The number of Ukrainians who have fled to neighboring countries since the beginning of the conflict in Donbas has exceeded 800,000, a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says, Armenpress reports, citing ITAR TASS.
Over the past week, the number of refugees has grown by 23,600 people. Almost 660,000 people have been officially registered in Russia and another 81,000 in Belarus, according to the report published on Monday.
By April 15, the number of persons leaving Donbas for other Ukrainian regions has reached 1.228 million. This number is an almost 15,000 increase compared with a week earlier, the OCHA says.
A total of 6,116 people have been killed and almost 15,500 have been wounded since mid-April 2014 when the military conflict started in eastern Ukraine, according to the UN.
The UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine and the World Health Organization believe that the real death toll could be much higher, the report stresses.
