YEREVAN, 18 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Our athletes were awarded four medals on the first day of the European Sambo Junior and Youth Championship competition, which is launched in the Novi Sad city of Serbia. Daniel Gabrielyan (60 kg) and Arman Niazyan (48 kg) won bronze medals, and Volodya Sargsyan (62 kg) and Misha Nazaryan (82 kg) reached the final, but took the second place and received silver awards. As “Armenpress” reports, the Sambo Federation of Armenia informed about this.

During awarding ceremony, a curious incident has been recorded. In honor of Azerbaijani winner Kamran Askarov, who won the 62kg weight in the youth class, the Armenia’s anthem has been sounded instead of Azerbaijan’s anthem.  The misunderstanding has been corrected minutes later, when athletes have come down from the pedestal.
