Kim Kardashian and Kanye West meet Jerusalem mayor

YEREVAN, APRIL 13, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian-American TV star Kim Kardashian and Kanye West met for a meal with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Monday evening during the superstars' whirlwind visit to the region.

"We raised a toast to Jerusalem," Barak recounted of his encounter with the celebrities at a local restaurant.

As reports “Armenpress” citing The Jerusalem Post, the mayor added that during the meeting, he asked the Hollywood-based crew "to be ambassadors of Jerusalem and to spread the message around the world that Jerusalem is open and everyone is wanted here."

In a quick visit to Jerusalem, the famous couple had their toddler daughter, North West, baptized at a 12th century Armenian church in the old walled city.

Dozens of fans mobbed an SUV that took the couple, their 22-month-old child and Kardashian's sister Khloe to the church, the girl and her father decked out in holy white and Kardashian in a long crinkle pleated beige and peach colored outfit.

The celebrities flew to Israel after a five-day visit to Armenia, homeland of Kardashian's ancestors, where on Friday she placed flowers in Yerevan at a memorial to the Armenian Genocide victims.

Kardashian, West, their daughter and Kardashian's sister Khole had just visited Armenia, her family's homeland.

Media reports said the group was expected to head on to Jordan after the baptism in St. James Cathedral in east Jerusalem, a church decorated with blue and white tiles made by Armenian artists in the 18th century.

Previously it was reported that Kim and Khloe Kardashian, world famous singer Kanye West and the accompanying delegation visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

The guests were accompanied by the AGMI Deputy Director Suren Manukyan. He presented to the guests the history of the Armenian Genocide and the memorial complex.

Kardashian sisters put red tulips at the eternal fire and honored the memory of the innocent victims with a minute of silence.

The guests also visited to the Memorial Wall of the Genocide Museum, and were introduced with the history of the American humanitarian aid during the years of genocide, as well as unprecedented humanitarian activities carried out afterwards.

Suren Manukyan also presented the story of Henry Morgenthau, the US Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.

At the end of the meeting a number of AGMI publications were handed to Kardashian sisters; “Ravished Armenia” by Aurora Mardiganian, "Armenian Genocide: Front Page Coverage in the World Press", “Expedition in Asia Minor and Relief Operation” by Clara Barton, and “International Journal of Armenian Genocide Studies”.
