of Armenia-EU comprehensive relations

YEREVAN, 9 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan had today meetings with President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Laura Boldrini and President of the Senate of Italy Pietro Grasso.

As the Public Relations and Mass Media Department of the Structure to the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the cordial reception and considered it a great honor to be in the marvelous Rome, which is not only the capital of a friendly country for Armenia, but also one of the major centers in the region.

Mentioning that the National Assembly of Armenia has established a nice tradition of establishing friendly relations with the parliaments of several European countries, the President of the Republic of Armenia emphasized that the time has come to raise the Armenian-Italian inter-parliamentary cooperation to a new level, especially since there are all the preconditions for that.

Serzh Sargsyan talked with satisfaction about the effective meeting that he had with President of Italy Sergio Mattarella in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.

During the meetings of the President of the Republic of Armenia with President of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Laura Boldrini and President of the Senate of Italy Pietro Grasso, views were exchanged on issues related to the Armenia-European Union cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that relations with the EU are still one of the key priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy and are hinged on the common system of values. In that context, the President attached importance to Italy’s role in the development of the Armenia-EU comprehensive relations. The President of the Republic of Armenia mentioned that Armenia praises the cooperation with the EU in spheres such as democracy, rule of law, the protection of fundamental liberties, as well as the joint programs for stable development and effective governance. During the meeting, the sides also touched upon the process of negotiations over the peaceful regulation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the challenges and problems facing the South Caucasus.
