It’s still too early to talk about a common currency within the EEU: Tatiana Valovaya

It’s still too early to talk about a common currency within the EEU:
Tatiana Valovaya

YEREVAN, 30 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. There is still a lot of work to do in order to establish a common currency in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. This is what member of the Advisory Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Minister Tatiana Valovaya announced during a discussion in Yerevan with the title “EEU Market without Hindrances”. According to her, it’s still too early to talk about the establishment of a common currency. “There have to be grounds for the establishment of that currency. We first have to create a strong economic union. The efforts that we’re currently making might be technical, but they’re important. We first have to create a common domestic market and a full-fledged economic union and then talk about a common currency,” Valovaya said, as “Armenpress” reports.

She recalled that the national currency of the Russian Federation was sharply devaluated last year, and the partnering states also suffered from that. “It’s clear that exporters from Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan were suffering from the devaluation of the Russian Ruble. Even if those countries weren’t part of the economic territory, the devaluation of the Russian Ruble was still going to have an impact on them. The difference now is that the member states can find solutions together,” said the member of the EEU Advisory Board.
