Armenian MPs still focused on genocide of Yazidis in Ottoman Turkey

YEREVAN, 27 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. Members of the Prosperous Armenia Party’s faction of the National Assembly have consulted with historians and experts who will examine and gather facts about the genocide that was committed against the Yazidis in Ottoman Turkey. Secretary of the PAP faction Vahe Enfiajyanemphasized that the PAP attaches importance to the role of ethnic minorities in Armenia and especially the issue of the genocide of the Yazidis, which needs to be studied. He also assured that the PAP faction would treat the issue seriously.

When asked if the PAP would introduce a legislative initiative condemning the genocide of the Yazidis, Enfiajyan said: “I’m not ruling out a similar statement or a legislative initiative.”

He stressed the fact that the process has been launched and has already sparked great reactions among the Yazidis living not only in Armenia, but also in different parts of the world. Enfiajyan also noted that the Yazidis mainly want the National Assembly to discuss the genocide of the Yazidis and adopt a statement condemning the genocide that was perpetrated against the Yazidis in the Ottoman Empire. “We must first understand what the grounds are and take adequate steps. The representatives of the Yazidi community have started gathering facts about the genocide of the Yazidis. We have to stop being sentimental,”Enfiajyan emphasized.

When asked if the PAP is ready to collaborate with member of the Heritage Party’s faction Zaruhi Postanjyan since she is also actively involved in this, Enfiajyan emphasized that the PAP is ready to collaborate with any political force or figure with regard to this issue.
