YEREVAN, 6 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. On March 5, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations, in association with the Armenian Relief Society (ARS), hosted a reception that marked the official launch of the exhibition showcasing the handmade items made by Armenian women with the title “Embroidery for Survival”. Among those attending the reception were clergymen, representatives of UN-member states, local and international organizations, as well as public and political figures and journalists. As the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, in his welcome speech at the reception, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations Zohrab Mnatsakanyan mentioned that the exhibition was a presentation of the history of the Armenian people who, exactly a century ago, were the victims of a crime that, at the time, was described as “a crime against humanity and civilization”.

The Permanent Representative stated that the exhibition showcases the history of the Armenian women who survived the Armenian Genocide. According to Mnatsakanyan, taking shelter in foreign countries, Armenian women managed to get their lives back on track and reaffirm their identity while adapting to the new reality and environment.

In her speech, ARS Chairwoman Vickie Marashlian pinpointed the importance of the exhibition under the light of women’s advancement and the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women and mentioned:“By showcasing these works of art, we have gathered to celebrate the courage, awakening and achievements of our ancestors, mothers and women.”
