Lithuania willing to help enhance EU-Armenia cooperation in the future

YEREVAN, 5 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received today Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania Juozas Bernatonis. Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the guest to Armenia and attached importance to the high-level reciprocal visits from the perspective of strengthening and development of bilateral interstate relations.

 As the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the Structure to the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, the head of state mentioned with satisfaction that the relations between Armenia and Lithuania have been developing dynamically over the past couple of years, both countries have diplomatic representations in their capital cities and that there are regular high-level reciprocal visits. According to the President, despite all this, the great potential of the Armenian-Lithuanian cooperation still hasn’t been fully used, and for that there is a need to make great efforts to perfect the juridical-contractual field. Serzh Sargsyan attached importance to the partnership between the Ministries of Justice of Armenia and Lithuania and welcomed the signing of a memorandum of mutual understanding on inter-agency cooperation within the framework of Minister Bernatonis’s visit.

 During the meeting, the President expressed gratitude once again to the Parliament of Lithuania for recognizing the Armenian Genocide in 2005 which, according to Serzh Sargsyan, goes to show how devoted Lithuanian parliamentarians are to universal values.

 Minister of Justice of Lithuania Juozas Bernatonis attached importance to the agreements reached during his visit to Yerevan and emphasized that there was a need to develop the relations in a more coordinated manner. Mentioning that Lithuania supports Armenia within the Eastern Partnership, the minister stressed the fact that Lithuania, as a friendly and partnering country, is willing to help enhance cooperation between Armenia and the European Union in the future.
