Armenian GM among leaders in European championship

YEREVAN, MARCH 4, ARMENPRESS: The European Individual Chess Championship is held from February 24 till March 8, 2015 in Jerusalem, Israel. Vladimir Akopian, Robert Hovhannisyan and Vladimir Pogosian of 9 participants from Armenia won their opponents. Gabriel Sargissian and Arman Mikaelyan played draw and Zaven Andriasian, Karen Grigoryan and Hrant Melkumyan lost.  
After the 7th round the member of the Armenian Men’s Chess Team Gabriel Sargissian is among the five leaders of the European chess championship and has 5,5 points. Vladimir Akopian has 5 points and is in the 23rd place.
Armenpress reports that more than 250 chess players from 33 countries take part in the tournament.
GMs Hrant Melkumyan, Gabriel Sargissian, Vladimir Akopian, Zaven Andriasian, Karen Grigoryan, Robert Hovhannisyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan as well as Arman Mikaelyan and Vladimir Pogosian are participating in the European Individual Chess Championship held from February 24 till March 8, 2015 in Jerusalem, Israel.
The European chess championship was opened Monday evening in an impressive ceremony held in Ramada hotel in Jerusalem. Some prominent friends and supporters of Israeli chess were present notably chairman of the finances committee of the Knesset (the Israeli parliament) MP Nisan Slomiansky who was extremely instrumental in raising the funds for the event, chairman of the national lottery general (ret.) Uzi Dayan, who is behind chess tuition projects for youngsters in the periphery and Moshe Slav, chairman of the Israeli chess federation. They all welcomed the participants in warm words wishing them that their stay in the Israeli capital would prove as a source of inspiration in their games.
