“Armenpress” holds Year’s Bestseller award giving ceremony

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 21, ARMENPRESS. “Armenpress” News Agency has summed up the results of Yerevan Bestseller exclusive project introducing the most demanded books. This is the second time “Armenpress” holds such an event. The award giving ceremony was held at the press centre of “Armenpress” on the symbolic day of the Armenian Language, which is marked on February 21. The winners in a row of nominations have been announced. The award giving targeting appreciation of the authors, translators, and publishers of the most demanded books of the year.

In the beginning of the ceremony, the Director of “Armenpress” News Agency Aram Ananyan expressed his gratitude to the participants of the events for their attention towards the project.

“This is the second time we sum up the year, which we complete on February 21 – the Day of the Armenian Language. We tried to find the books, which attracted the readers’ attention for 52 weeks. We held the first award giving ceremony last year. This year we hold the second ceremony and we are hopeful that this will become a good tradition. We are dedicated to the realization of this project to encourage reading and love towards reading to make it particularly characteristic of us,” Aram Ananyan noted.

Among other things, the Director of “Armenpress” News Agency underscored that we are a people, which rescued manuscripts for centuries, even during the attacks of foreign conquerors, when we were deprived of statehood. In addition, Aram Ananyan noted: “People were guided by the principle saying ‘Man shall not live by bread alone’; they highlighted the significance of the book as a part of our memory and continuity of our cultural legacy.”

Levon Khechoyan was posthumously declared “Year’s Contemporary Armenian Author” for his novel “The Secret of Mher’s Door”.

The works by Columbian author Gabriel García Márquez (“The Autumn of the Patriarch”, "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "One Hundred Years of Solitude") published by “Bookinist” Publishing House won in the nomination “Year’s Foreign Bestseller”.

Zaven Boyajyan won in the nomination “Year’s Most Demanded Translation”. Boyajyan translated "The Name of the Rose" by Italian author Umberto Eco, which was published by “Antares” Publishing House.

Shavarsh Karapetyan’s “The World’s Wise Tales” (“Edit-Print” publishing house) was declared “Year’s Children's Book”.

“Antares” became “Year’s Publisher of Bestsellers”.

Vahan Hovhannisyan, of holy memory, received a special prize for his book titled “Mandylion”.

“Edit-Print” publishing house received a special prize after Levon Ananyan for “Anthology of Young Authors”.

Aleksan Mosoyan was declared “Friend of the Project” for his comprehensive support to the project.
