Atom Egoyan: “It’s wonderful to live in a country that has recognized the Armenian
Genocide”

YEREVAN, 27 JANUARY, ARMENPRESS. In an interview with France 24 agency, Canadian-Armenian film director Atom Egoyan touched upon his latest films and the relationship that exists between those films, his past and the Armenian Genocide. As “Armenpress” reports, Egoyan mentioned that the mix of genres in his film can very often confuse viewers. Touching upon a film critic’s observation that the real process hasn’t been revealed in his previous films, the film director mentioned that his approaches are most likely linked to his own past and the Armenian Genocide.

“I think the idea that horrible events have taken place in the past and that I’m trying to understand them is linked to my origin. I’m Armenian, and now, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, is the right time to not only understand what happened, but also to see to what extent the issue remains unsolved,” the Canadian-Armenian film director mentioned. At the end, Egoyan mentioned that it’s wonderful to live in a country that has recognized the Armenian Genocide, referring to France. Egoyan also wished other countries would follow France’s example.
