Edward Nalbandyan: “Azerbaijani authorities place domestic political interests above their
soldiers’ lives”

YEREVAN, 26 JANUARY, ARMENPRESS. With its policy, Azerbaijan has led the country to a labyrinth and is now trying to get out of that situation with hysterical acts. This is what Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan said during a January 26 press conference. “The more the number of assaults and persecutions against political opposition members and civil society representatives and the number of the international community’s condemning statements grow, the more Azerbaijan tries to distract people’s attention and intensify the situation in the conflict zone, and this leads to casualties,” the minister mentioned, as “Armenpress” reports.

He regretted to note that the Azerbaijani authorities place domestic political interests above human lives. “They look at their soldiers as virtual soldiers and send hundreds of young people to die every day,” Nalbandyan mentioned. Nalbandyan emphasized that this doesn’t mean that Armenia shouldn’t continue to work with the international community to reach a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “However, more and more questions on the Azerbaijani government’s adequacy and ability to give a sound assessment of the situation are coming up. During a recent press conference, Azerbaijan’s President said the media is free in Azerbaijan and that his reputation is over 90 percent. I leave it up to you to interpret that, even though the international community has made its interpretations,” Edward Nalbandyan emphasized.
