Border tension conditioned by Armenian Genocide centenary: expert

YEREVAN, JANUARY 26, ARMENPRESS: The tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Karabakh-Azerbaijani borders is conditioned first by the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, according to the political expert Levon Melik-Shakhnazaryan. The expert states that this way Azerbaijan will solve several problems at once. Armenpress presents interview held with Levon Melik-Shakhnazaryan.
- The year began with unprecedented border tension, which has continued for a month. How appropriate it is to condition this tension with a date?
- It is wrong to condition the January tension by some days. Such things happened, though this year the change is considerable. The situation has changed. In 2015 Armenia will be in the center of attention of the international media, conditioned by the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. For that very purpose Azerbaijan has prepared black PR for Armenia, aiming at solving several problems. Organizing border provocations, Azerbaijan shows that the problem is not with the self-determination of the people of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, but with Armenia, which allegedly attacked and “occupied” that territory. This way Azerbaijan closes the Artsakh issue and Artsakh becomes not a state, which was established on the right of self-determination and is developing, but a state, which was occupied by Armenia from Azerbaijan. Consequently, the country, which “attacks”, “captures” and “occupies” another country, does not need any consolation and support and one cannot mourn with an aggressor country.
