Levon Aronian on his first victory at Tata Steel
YEREVAN, JANUARY 21, ARMENPRESS. One of the quickest games of the 9th round of the Tata Steel chess festival was the one between Levon Aronian and Jobava: Levon scored his first victory in the tournament, which has become already the seventh loss for Baadur.
'My opponent attempted to use only one side of the board, and I managed to punish him for that', Aronian said in the brief interview to chess-news.
Among other things, the leader of the Armenian Men’s Chess Team stated: “I'm very glad to have won a game - of course, talking about today, not about the tournament on the whole', Aronian commented. 'I wasn't expecting the game to be easy, even though the opponent is far from his best shape. Everyone is fighting, everyone is looking for his chances. Today, I was lucky because he opted for a very risky strategy at once.”
“As the saying goes, our opponents' creativeness is guarantee of our success. At least, for me this works: I enjoy facing those who play and give me play, while solid opponents are more uncomfortable. I don't know my exact stats against creative players, but, for sure, to me facing them over the board is much more pleasant,” Aronian noted.
