YEREVAN, DECEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS: The incapacity to work of the Armenian Patriarch Mesrob II Mutafyan of Constantinople, conditioned by poor health, has recently emerged heated discussions in the Armenian community of Turkey. Some representatives of the community began raising the issue of electing a new patriarch. Armenpress talked to the Editor-in-Chief of the Istanbul-based Armenian periodical Ara Gochunyan, as a person, well-informed about the internal community affairs, trying to find out the actions and probable developments taking place inside the Armenian community of Turkey.
“It is impossible to hold patriarchal elections without arising shocks in the community. I think that the continuation of the current poor situation would be better than causing shocks and disruptions in the Armenian community. Besides, the Turkish media immediately begin writing that the Armenian community was split and the Armenians cannot agree on the election of a patriarch, etc, etc. That is, that will emerge additional headache before the Turkish society”, - said the Editor-in-Chief of the Istanbul-based Armenian periodical Ara Gochunyan.
