Armenia's PM issues statement on situation in financial market

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan has issued a statement on the situation in the financial market. The Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that the PM’s statement, in particular, runs as follows:

“The current developments in the financial market are actually conditioned by the global and regional developments, which are not free from obviously speculative elements. In case of such spontaneous developments of global trends, the Government of the Republic of Armenia remains loyal to the adopted policy of floating exchange rate, which is necessary to keep the economy safe from long-term instability.

The Government supports the efforts made by the Central Bank aimed at the stability of the financial system and takes all steps to provide the ordinary activity of the financial system and protection of the interests of the entrepreneurs and citizens of the Republic of Armenia.

All the depositors must be confident that the Republic of Armenia has an efficient deposit guarantee system and both the Government and the Central Bank do and will do everything for the protection of the citizens’ deposits.

The Central bank’s Council will give detailed clarifications to the public on the current situation today at 14:00."
