Defending title was more difficult than winning it: Carlsen

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS: The World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen confessed that defending the title was more difficult than winning it. “I am very happy. The game was more complicated than it was last year. I managed to succeed everything in this game what I had planned. Anand is really a very good player. Though in the game I had more chances”, - said Carlsen, Armenpress reports.
Talking about the last game, the Indian grand master Viswanathan Anand said in particular: “In this game there was a moment I tried to run the risk and it did not work. Carlsen did not make any mistakes. I had nothing else than to risk. In general Carlsen played better than I did”.
Magnus Carlsen successfully defended his title as World Chess Champion on Sunday. He defeated Challenger Viswanathan Anand in Game 11 of a 12-game match to achieve the 6.5 points needed to claim victory. Armenpress reports, citing the Business Insider that Anand really went for it, attempting a dramatic sacrificial strategy when playing with the black pieces. It was a fitting end to a rematch of the 2013 WCC, when Carlsen ended Anand's 5-time reign as champion.
