BUENOS AIRES, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The representatives of the Armenian community of Argentina have organized an event in honor of the Chairman of the Argentine FC San Lorenzo de Almagro Matías Lammens and expressed gratitude to him for not getting involved in the Azerbaijani provocations and false propaganda. As reports “Armenpress” citing Prensa Armenia, Matías Lammens underscored: “I am happy that San Lorenzo has become the first in this arena and proved that money does not mean everything and money cannot buy anything and there are things, which are not for sale.”

As reports “Armenpress”, the event was attended not merely by the representatives of the Armenian community, but by the journalists, athletes, and chairmen of the most popular Argentine football clubs as well. They all expressed their satisfaction and highlighted that the standpoint and behavior of FC San Lorenzo can serve as an example for the others as well.

Among other things, the Chairman of the Argentine FC San Lorenzo de Almagro Matías Lammens underscored that he is happy that the Uruguayan FC Peñarol has also refused to become a part of Azerbaijani propaganda.

Previously it was reported that the Argentine FC San Lorenzo de Almagro has refused Azerbaijan’s sponsorship and emphasized that this country uses sport for spreading racist statements and violation of human rights. Azerbaijan, which currently provides sponsorship to Spanish FC Atlético Madrid, expressed a desire to provide sponsorship to the Argentine FC San Lorenzo de Almagro, but on one condition. The club had to write on its jerseys the following expression: “There are no ethnic Armenians.”

This caused the complaint of the club’s administration. At the same time, the local Armenian community held meetings with the administration, after which the club refused Azerbaijan’s petrodollars.

Referring to its sources in the Football Federation of Argentina, Prensa Armenia.com states that after San Lorenzo’s refusal, Azerbaijan engaged itself in the search of a new club, which will be eager not to take into consideration humanistic ideas and, at the same time, will not be worried about the deterioration of relations with the representatives of the local Armenian community.
