Roman Shirokov on Yura Movsisyan's return

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 31, ARMENPRESS. According to the footballer of Spartak Moscow FC Roman Shirokov, Spartak will benefit greatly from Yura Movsisyan’s return.

As reports “Armenpress” citing Sport-xpress website, the Russian footballer particularly underscored: “Generally speaking, we currently have only one striker. It’s great that Yura Movsisyan has returned to the squad. There will be more competitiveness now.”

Previously it was reported that Spartak Moscow’s Europa League efforts ended in shock disbelief as they fell 4-2 to St. Gallen at nearby Arena Khimki, falling out the competition 5-3 on the aggregate.

Coming from Monday’s loss to Amkar Perm and with the very short rest period in thought Spartak manager Valeriy Karpin made five changes to his line-up with Marek Suchý, Rafael Carioca, Yevgeni Makeev, Lucas Barrios and Abdul Waris for Juan Insaurralde, João Carlos, Denis Glushakov, Yura Movsisyan and Pavel Yakovlev.

The hopes of the Spartak faithful soared in the opening minute as Aras Özbiliz worked into the right top edge of the area before playing a sumptuous one-two with Lucas Barrios to score from six metres. However the lead did not last long and coming at the seventeenth minute Belgrade native Goran Karanović got past Sergei Parshivlyuk to side-foot Roberto Rodriguez’s provision from the right beyond Red-White goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov the twenty-five year old attacked logged his second of the match at the thirty-second minute as, from seven metres, he volleyed Matías Vitkieviez‘s long cross from the opposite flank. Disaster struck four minutes later as coming via a quick counter Marco Mathys played Roberto Rodriguez through on the left channel past Sergei Parshivlyuk and just as quickly St. Gallen was leading 3-1.

At the re-start, Mr. Karpin added Yura Movsisyan for Abdul Waris with Pavel Yakovlev for Lucas Barrios shortly thereafter but Spartak's efforts to close the defecit were a trying uphill battle. Dug in with firm defending resolve the Swiss side offered few opportunities and what chances rose, St. Gallen goalkeeper Daniel Lopar proved formidable. With seven minutes remaining Yura Movsisyan restored hopes as he finished a left wing cross but any hopes of a grandstand finish ended when Bayern München product Dejan Janjatović eased off the left flank into the box to restore St. Gallen’s two goal advantage. Following two minutes of uneventful added-time the final whistle sounded with Spartak Moscow’s Europa League efforts ending with a 5-3 aggregate shortfall to St. Gallen.
