YEREVAN, OCTOBER 24, ARMENPRESS: The twenty-year-old modern history over the constitutional developments of Armenia shows that ensuring the rule of law for consolidation of a democratic state has no alternative. The latter cannot be only a kind wish, it demands appropriate constitutional solutions, balanced and productive legal system, effective mechanisms, legal thinking, appropriate atmosphere of culture.

This was stated in Armenian President’s message addressed to the participants of the 19^th Yerevan conference dedicated to the issues of constitutional justice, which was read by Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Armenia Gagik Harutyunyan.

“I am very happy that constitutionalists of over 20 countries have again arrived in Armenia to consider an issue of utmost importance – the constitutional status of human dignity. I am also glad that the Yerevan conferences dedicated to constitutional justice issues, besides being a kind tradition, have also gained an international significance. I especially want to highlight the theme of the current conference and its direct connection with ensuring of the constitutional principle of the rule of law,” the president’s message runs, Armenpress reports.

According to the President, it is not possible to achieve the above mentioned in one day, but we can expect success if ensuring the rule of law becomes an importance issue on the state policy agenda.

Serzh Sargsyan said that for us this issue is very important taking into consideration that Armenia has undertaken important constitutional reforms. Only some days ago the professional commission presented the concept on constitutional reforms. It was discussed and approved at the plenary session of the European Council’s Venice Commission and is going to pass a political discussions’ phase in near future.

The 19^th Yerevan conference dedicated to constitutional justice issues is conducted October 23-25.
