YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, ARMENPRESS: “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry tops this week's "Bestseller Books List" introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency.

"Memories of My Melancholy Whores" by Columbian author Gabriel García Márquez occupies the second position of the list.

"The Alchemist" novel by contemporary Brazilian author Paulo Coelho is in the third place. According to AFP, it has sold more than 65 million copies in 56 different languages, becoming one of thebest-selling books in history and setting the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author. The book is introduced with new publication by “Antares” publishing house.

"Memories of My Melancholy Whores" by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez occupies the 4th position.  “The invincible power that has moved the world is unrequited, not happy love” quote from Márquez’s novel has become winged words. The book was translated in 2010 by Hovhannes Ayvazyan.  "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen is in the 5th position.

St. Gregory of Narek’s ''The Book of Lamentations'' occupies the sixth position of the bestseller books list introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency. The mystical poem "Book of Lamentations" has been translated into many languages and has played a significant role in the development of the Armenian literary language. In 95 grace-filled prayers St. Gregory draws on the exquisite potential of the Classical Armenian language to translate the pure sighs of the broken and contrite heart into an offering of words pleasing to God. The result is an edifice of faith for the ages, unique in Christian literature for its rich imagery, its subtle theology, its Biblical erudition, and the sincere immediacy of its communication with God. This masterpiece by St. Gregory of Narek has always been included in our bestseller books list.

“Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson has also been included in the list. Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

“Stone Dreams" by prominent Azerbaijani writer Akram Aylisli is in the 9th position of the Bestseller Books List. After the publication of Aylisli's "Stone Dreams" novella, which depicted the pogroms carried out by Azerbaijanis against the Armenians in Sumgait and Baku and presented Armenians in sympathetic light, President Aliyev signed a presidential decree that stripped Aylisli of the title of "People's Writer" and the presidential pension. His books were burnt by Azerbaijani intelligentsia and compatriots in his hometown,  his son and wife were fired from their jobs and a "bounty" of some $13,000 was promised for cutting the writer's ear off. In March 2014, a formal request was made by various public figures throughout the world to nominate Aylisli for the Nobel Peace Prize.

"Love in the Time of Cholera" again by Márquez occupies the second position. In their youth, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall passionately in love. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is devastated, but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career he whiles away the years in 622 affairs--yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral.
