YEREVAN, OCTOBER 1, ARMENPRESS: Armenia has approached the threshold of the old grown countries, UN Population Fund's Armenia representative Garik Hayrapetyan told journalists on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons.

“Taking into consideration those circumstances, it will be illogical not to think of future and its influence, as well as to miss the opportunities of efficient usage of the potential of those people and involving the elderly in development processes,” said Garik Hayrapetyan.

He added that when 8 % of the population is 60 and older, that country is considered young, but in case of 8-13% the country is considered as old growing, and in case of 13% - as old grown.

“Today 13% of Armenia’s population is over 60, which means that Armenia is at the upper threshold of old growing countries and approaches the list of the old grown one,” UN Population Fund's Armenia representative noted.
