Armenian organizations of Syria continue working and promoting preservation of Armenian
identity

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS: All the Armenian colleges and cultural organizations in Syria continue working and promoting preservation of the Armenian identity, His Grace Bishop Armash Nalbandian, Primate of the Armenian Church of Damascus, told today journalists.

“All the colleges in Syria work today. Some of them do not work in their building, but by means of joining several colleges, through conducting the morning and afternoon classes together, etc. On September 15, the schools reopened and pupils started the academic year with great delight,” His Grace said.

Referring to preservation of the Armenian identity in different communities, he noted that they always face the issue, but he cannot also say that the identity preservation is endangered widespread. “Dioceses are different. Every country is unique with its difficulties and challenges. As for Syria, we have everyday schools and colleges, where they teach Armenian language, literature, history, religion. We try to speak Armenian in those colleges. Speaking Armenian is very important; we encourage families to speak Armenian in their everyday activities. There is also a cultural life apart from the school. Cultural organizations hold events, and the Armenian people continuously deal with the Armenian culture,” Armash Nalbandian stressed.

30 thousand Armenians have left the Syrian community up to now, the Bishop said.
