YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS: Emergency Situations Ministry of Armenia in collaboration with U.S. Embassy’s Military Cooperation Office conducted September 16-17 a symposium on the theme of “arrangement of the population’s protection in case of strong earthquakes, implementation of the national support and cooperation with international organizations”. Representatives of governing bodies and interested departments, NGOs, international experts participated in the conference, Emergency Situations Ministry informed Armenpress.

The participants discussed issues related to the national plan on protection of the population, the lessons of the Spitak earthquake, resistant construction, as well as referred to the role of society in elimination of the consequences of disasters, geographic information systems, operative management, competence of people during disasters and public relations.

The discussions during the conference appeared to be very productive for solution of a number of issues in the sphere, taking into consideration the rich international experience connected with response to earthquakes.
