Human Rights Defender of Armenia waits for response of UN High Commissioner on Karen
Petrosyan’s case

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS: Human Rights Defender of Armenia has not yet received the answer to the letter addressed to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the case of Armenian citizen Karen Petrosyan who was taken captive in Azerbaijan and murdered a day later.

The Armenian party is in contact with UN High Commissioner’s office. “They have received our letter, as a new commissioner has been appointed, but have not answered yet, we are waiting for response,” Public Relations Department of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia told Armenpress.

Head of the Torture Prevention Department Yeranuhi Tumanyants said that the best response expected from the UN High Commissioner will be the speedy handover of the body. “If the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights speaks of return of the body, it will promote prevention and exclusion of similar cases in future. The more they delay the handover of the body, the better it will be possible to conceal the facts of torture and violence, which seem to be obvious,” she noted.
