Despite linguistic obstacles Syrian-Armenian pupil likes Armenian school

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. This year 65 Syrian-Armenian children are studying in Yerevan’s school number 14 after Nar-Dos. According to the Director of the school Arusyak Barseghyan, the children are so well fluent in Eastern-Armenian and are so active, that sometimes it is hard to distinguish them from those, who live in Armenia. “Armenpress” talked with the director, with Syrian-Armenian schoolgirl and with her mother.

“Two years ago the Cilician Collage opened in our school, where almost 300 Syrian-Armenian pupils were studying with their Arabic program. That year the children even were not completely fluent in Western-Armenian, so that is why they came to Armenia with their teachers and program and chose our school. However, when the Ministry decided that Cilician Collage must be closed and children must attend to public schools and study with public program, in that case many problems arose. Children were generally Arab speaking and they couldn’t communicate in Eastern-Armenian and learn the lessons,” Arusyak Barseghyan said.
