Stepanakert considers recognition of Karabakh's independence by California Senate a great 
victory

STEPANAKERT, AUGUST 28, ARMENPRESS. Davit Babayan, the Press Spokesperson of the President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, characterized the recognition of Karabakh’s independence by California Senate as a great victory.

In a conversation with “Armenpress”, Davit Babayan underscored: “Thus the process of recognition has successfully reached its end in California. California is not just a common state in the U.S. It is one of the major states in regard of its economic potential and population. Moreover, it’s one of the world’s 7 states with major economies. It can be said that California is a separate state, which appreciated the right of people’s to self determination, desire of freedom and the activities carried out in Karabakh and recognized our independence. The state building process in Karabakh, which is carried out in compliance with the approaches and standards of the civilized countries, has again proved to the efficient.”

Previously it was reported that the California State Senate approved a measure recognizing the independence and self-determination of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Wednesday’s vote on AJR32 also called for U.S. recognition of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, marking a major milestone in the growing American movement supporting the national and democratic aspirations of the citizens of this independent and historically Armenian country.

The historic vote specifically voiced encouragement for Artsakh’s continuing efforts to develop as a free and independent nation, and formally called upon the President and Congress of the United States to support the self-determination and democratic independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
