Syrian refugees settled in Turkey compare themselves with Armenians in 1915

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. Some of the Syrian refugees, settled in Turkey as a result of the military situation in Syria, reside in the former Armenian settlements. One of such areas is Tepebasi district of Ayntap Sahinbey province, Kurtulus mosque of which used to be Armenian St. Mary's church. As reports “Armenpress”, “Agos” newspaper writes that today in the houses, once inhabited by the wealthy Armenian families, the Syrian refugees are living with windows and doors shut with carpets.

Selam’s family is one of the Syrian refugee families. The family members are afraid to be photographed, to reveal their identity, only allowing the three children to smile in front of the camera. The two older children are at work. The history of the Armenians is not alien to this family. Father of the family, Hossam, tells about the Armenians: “When they came to our country, they were in the same situation as we are now. Today we also have nothing. The war took away everything from us, just like a hundred years ago it happened to the Armenians. This is our year of 1915."
