YEREVAN, AUGUST 26, ARMENPRESS. The Palestinian delegation at the ongoing negotiations in Cairo has accepted the Egyptian mediators’ invitation to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza for a period of 30 days, the Sky News Arabia news channel said on August 26. The ceasefire in Gaza will come into force at 19: 00 local time (Yerevan time: 20:00), as reports “Armenpress”, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said.

According to earlier reports, the parties to the conflict may declare a new Cairo-mediated armistice agreement. It is expected that a statement to this effect will be made in the Egyptian capital at 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will disclose the details of the agreement in Ramallah, in the West Bank.

HAMAS officials have already confirmed that an agreement has been concluded.

The previous round of consultations between the warring parties was disrupted a week ago. Hostilities in the Palestinian enclave resumed. HAMAS said that “there will be no new talks in Cairo with Israel until the latter agrees in advance to meet all legitimate demands of the Palestinians.”

Israel is pressing for demilitarization of Gaza and guarantees of its own security. The Palestinians are emphatically against this. They demand the blockade should be lifted from the coastal enclave first.
