Elina Danielyan on Olympiad results

YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS. Armenia's women’s chess team had a quite successful performance at the 41st World Chess Olympiad and at one point was fighting for medals. In a conversation with “Armenpress”, the Armenian team’s number one Elina Danielyan, summing up the already finished Olympiad, expressed her satisfaction with the results. She also spoke about the future plans for this year and the upcoming 2015 World Team Chess Championship to be held in Armenia.

- The results of women’s chess team at this year's Olympiad were really good. By the final result we were the 5th. Could we have done better?

- If we talk about the results, they were not bad. If we could defeat our main opponents - the Russian team, I guess it would have been better. But not everything depended on that game. While we played against the Russians, we were sharing the third place. To be able to fight for the medals, we only had to win. During the matches we had a chance to win, but it just didn’t work out. But, anyway, we could have done better at the Olympiad.

- And what lacked in the game against the Russians?

- Now it's hard to tell what was lacking or what was more, but when confused we do such errors, which we are not able to explain later. If I speak on my behalf, the match against the Russians made me exhausted. It is like that, when the opponent is strong, the match becomes tense. You are not strained when playing with a weaker opponent, but you are always alert in the matches against stronger opponents. (THE FULL VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
