Armenia plans to be involved in UN peacekeeping activities in Lebanon
WASHINGTON, JULY 29, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Zohrab Mnatsakanyan participated in the UN Security Council open debate on peacekeeping activities.
The Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that in his remarks, the Armenian Ambassador underscored the UN’s key role in planning, coordination, and implementation of the peacekeeping activities and particularly highlighted the necessity of continuation of cooperation between the Security Council, Secretary General and countries providing peacekeeping forces and regional organizations.
Recognizing peacekeeping's value, Mnatsakanyan pointed to a peacekeeping brigade in the Armenian armed forces, adding that our country would contribute forces to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), manifesting the intention of gradually increasing Armenia's contribution to United Nations peacekeeping.
