Orhan Zeynalov sentenced to 17 years in prison

YEREVAN, JULY 28, ARMENPRESS.The Moscow City Court has sentenced Azerbaijani native Orhan Zeynalov to 17 years in prison for killing Moscow resident Yegor Shcherbakov, which caused mass disturbances in Moscow's Western Biryulyovo district last fall.

This is stipulated in the resolution section of the ruling read by Judge Nikolai Tkachuk on Monday, reports “Armenpress”, referring to the Interfax.

The court has found Zeynalov guilty of murder over hooligan motive.

It has been reported that during debates prosecution asked the court to find Zeynalov guilty and to sentence him to 18 years in prison, 10 of which he is to spend in jail and the rest in a maximum security colony.

Investigators believe that on October 10, 2013 during a verbal argument near 7, Vostryakovsky Lane in Moscow Zeynalov attacked Shcherbakov, hit him numerous times with hands and then twice with a knife and one of the blows landed in heart.

On October 13, 2013 disturbances occurred in Moscow's Western Biryulyovo district over the murder of Shcherbakov. They escalated into violence in a shopping mall and unrest near local vegetable warehouse.

Zeynalov was detained in Kolomna on October 15. Moscow's Presnensky Court placed him under arrest. While the arrest request was considered, Zeynalov said he was innocent, however later he partially admitted his guilt, then during the court inquiry he refused completely his testimony and denied being guilty.
