Sen Arevshatyan’s requiem service set for July 28

YEREVAN, JULY 26, ARMENPRESS. The requiem service of the prominent Armenologist, philosopher, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, former Director of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) Sen Arevshatyan will be held in Yerevan’s St. Hovhannes Church on Monday at 18:00. The Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) informed “Armenpress” that the public can bid last farewell to the renowned scholar on July 29 at 12:00-14:00 in the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

Sen S. Arevshatyan (7 January 1928 - 25 July 2014 Yerevan) was an Armenian scholar, whose works are devoted to the history of ancient and medieval Armenian philosophy and historical sources. He was also specialized in the publication of critical texts and scientific translations of medieval works. Arevshatyan was awarded the State Prize of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1978. He had been a member of Armenian Academy of Sciences presidium, ex-director of Mashtots Matenadaran for more than two decades.

Arevshatyan was a Member of the Paris-based International Academy “Ararat” since 1993 and the International Academy of Natural and Social Sciences. He was the founder and chairman of the Cultural Found of Armenia (1986–1989) and an Honored Citizen of Yerevan.

His main works are devoted to the history of ancient and medieval Armenian philosophy, as well as study of sources, publication of critical texts and scientific translations of medieval authors’ works.

He was the member of the International Academies “Ararat” (Paris, 1993); of Natural and Social Sciences (Moscow, 1995); of Issues of National Security Studying (1998).

Arevshatyan was Laureate of the State Prize of the Armenian SSR (1978), Bearer of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1986) and the Order “Saint Sahak – Saint Mesrop” (Holy Echmiadzin, 2004).
