Hovhannes Manukyan referred to incident at Armenian Church of St. Etchmiadzin in Tbilisi

Hovhannes Manukyan referred to incident at Armenian Church of St. Etchmiadzin in Tbilisi

YEREVAN, JULY 24, ARMENPRESS. Whether the incident, which occurred at the Armenian Church of St. Etchmiadzin in Tbilisi, was a household quarrel, or not, raises religious and ethnic tolerance issues. At a briefing, after the Government sitting, this was stated by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Hovhannes Manukyan, who previously served as the Ambassador of Armenia to Georgia.

"I am sorry for that incident. As I was informed, the source of the incident was a household quarrel, but, unfortunately, it turned into a big conflict, which occurred near the Church of St. Etchmiadzin. Regardless of whether it was a household quarrel, or not, we have a problem of religious and national tolerance. Corresponding announcements have already been made in this regard by the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia and the Georgian Patriarch,” reports “Armenpress”, citing the Minister. He stressed that Georgia is a path of strategic importance for Armenia and the relations between the two countries must be friendly. “Georgia is an important foreign political partner for us, and we have no right to fail to do everything to make our relations with the friendly nation stronger and deeper,” he said.
